We all live in places where decisions about our environment are made for us. Where roads are laid, parks and trees are planted and where buildings are raised are decisions which are all out of our hands. But what if you could imagine your own world? What spaces and places would make you happy, make you feel safe, make you feel relaxed, or less lonely or give you a sense of belonging?

As Architects we work with community groups, who offer valuable input into the design of better buildings and places. In this workshop we will undertake an exciting and engaging design process and make a large drawing/model together that gives solutions to what you think your place needs.  

The day will begin with an exploration of Lincoln’s Ermine Estate to discuss what works and what doesn’t for all the generations that live there. Most of the day will be focused on making and building design solutions to these problems and creating a masterplan for the Ermine!

The workshop will be led by Chair of RIBA East Midlands Barbara Griffin. Place Making and Imagination forms part of Mansions of the Future’s Urban Form: Social Architecture & The Commons season (Nov 2019 – March 2020). The programme which intends to engage artists, architects, academics and local citizens in conversation and debate around the past, present and future of Lincoln’s social and civic life, within the context of the local built environment.
