Mansions of the Future is delighted to be collaborating with The Collection, Lincoln to support a research-led commission with artist Laura Wilson. Inspired by Lincoln’s history, heritage and objects from The Collection’s displays and archives Laura will be delivering an ambitious, site-specific performance in the public realm in Summer 2020.
Laura is joining us during a period of research and development to introduce her commission, framing it within the context of recent projects including, New Geographies with Norwich Castle Museum & Gallery; and Trained on Veda, an evolving project connecting bakeries and galleries across the UK through veda bread developed with TACO, Site Gallery, MIMA & Grand Union. During the lunch you will get to try some veda bread, which will accompany a soup.
Laura Wilson is interested in how history is carried & evolved through everyday materials, trades & craftsmanship. She works with specialists to develop sculptural & performative works that amplify the relationship between materiality, memory & tacit knowledge.
Wilson’s interdisciplinary & research-based works have been exhibited widely, she recently presented work as part of Food: Bigger than the Plate at the V&A & has forthcoming projects and exhibitions in 2019/20 with Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery, Norwich; Open Space Contemporary, London; Grand Union, Birmingham, TACO, London & MIMA, Middlesbrough.
