At a series of community events taking place over late Summer and early Autumn we will get out our shovels and bags to collect goods that others have left behind. Together we will gain an appreciation of a harvest through digging and foraging for the discarded, hidden or forgotten – from produce to objects and sounds that tell us a more about our past and even our future.
Our finds will be displayed in the Mansions of the Future with artefacts unearthed during an archaeological dig at the Wigford Big Dig hosted at St. Peter of Gowts Church by Banks Newton; debris cleared by the Sincil Bank Lincoln Rivercare & Litter Pick team and audio gathered in forgotten areas across the City at workshops devised by artist collective General Practice.
Community champions, historians, litter specialists, local experts and archaeologists will join us on Saturday 20 October to explain the gathered objects and where they came from. Helping us discover the objects stories and provenance together.
Blackberry jam and rosemary cordial made at ‘Picking & Digging’ workshops using produce harvested from St Peter at Gowts Churchyard will be served at the event.
