Artist, activist & instagrammer Lisa Selby/bluebaglife in conversation with author & activist Carl Cattermole (Prison: A Survival Guide, Penguin). Talking from experience about the UK Prison System, they will be dismantling media myths & discussing the future for prison campaigns in 2019-2020. The talk will be followed by an open discussion with the audience.


Lisa Selby talks about addiction, mental health and wellbeing in connection to UK penal systems and support networks, she seeks to support those incarcerated and those affected by addiction. Her partner Elliot is due to be released from prison this year.


Carl Cattermole (prisonism) discovered his talent for writing while serving a prison sentence. Prison: A Survival Guide will be out this year.


‘I have always given NO COMMENT interviews to the police, however, since my release from prison I have given comment to everyone from Radio 4 to the Daily Mail about criminal justice issues’


This talk is part of Freedom: Public Conversations a programme of events and discussions organised by Ruth Beale, exploring ideas around freedom. This programme will be presented alongside All the Banners (Silent). Ruth’s hand-made blank banners are interpretations of real banners used in protests & rallies from protests & rallies including Justice for Grenfell, Suffragette marches & the pit closures.
